Richard Cohen, a veteran journalist and husband of Meredith Vieira, passed away on Christmas Eve at the age of 76 after battling multiple sclerosis for over five decades and surviving two cancer diagnoses.
Family and Love Surrounding His Final Moments
The news of Cohen's death was shared on the Today show on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Hoda Kotb mentioned that he was "surrounded by his family and love" during his last moments, with Vieira and their three children - Lily, Gabriel, and Benjamin - by his side.
During Thanksgiving, Kotb recalled, the family was worried about losing Cohen soon. However, they were grateful for the extra time they had with him before his passing.
A Loving and Supportive Relationship
Vieira and Cohen had been married for 38 years, with Cohen revealing his MS diagnosis to Vieira early on in their relationship. Despite the challenges, Vieira remained a steadfast supporter of Cohen throughout their years together.
As Cohen transitioned from his journalism career to becoming an advocate for those living with MS, Vieira stood by his side every step of the way. Her dedication to her husband and family eventually led her to step back from her own career in broadcast journalism to spend more time with her loved ones.
