TikTok has announced that its service will be shut down for its 170 million American users due to a ban in the United States over national security concerns.

The popular social media platform, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has been facing increasing scrutiny from the US government over fears that user data could be accessed by the Chinese government. TikTok has denied these allegations, stating that they have strict data privacy measures in place.

In a recent statement, TikTok expressed disappointment over the ban and called on the Biden administration to intervene. The company warned that unless assurances are given by the administration, TikTok will be forced to cease operations in the US from January 19.

The ban stems from a law that prohibits app stores and cloud providers from offering TikTok unless it is sold to a non-Chinese owner. The Supreme Court recently upheld this law, leaving TikTok with limited options to continue its operations in the US.

TikTok's future in the US remains uncertain as the company continues to navigate regulatory challenges and legal battles. Users are advised to stay updated on the latest developments regarding the app's availability in the country.
