The Trump administration is facing backlash from a federal judge for resisting orders to produce information about the mistaken deportation of a Maryland man to El Salvador. The judge has criticized the administration for obstructing the legal process and acting in bad faith by refusing to provide information. The administration has filed a sealed motion requesting a stay of the judge's order to provide sworn testimony and documents about their efforts to retrieve Kilmar Abrego Garcia. This comes after the judge gave the administration a deadline to produce information, which they failed to meet. The White House is also requesting relief from providing daily status updates on Abrego Garcia's status and efforts to return him. The administration has argued that it is up to El Salvador to return Abrego Garcia, but the president of El Salvador has stated that he lacks the power to do so. Abrego Garcia, who lived in the U.S. for 14 years and has three children with disabilities, was mistakenly deported despite a ruling from an immigration judge that he would likely face persecution in El Salvador. The administration later claimed he was a member of the MS-13 gang, but Abrego Garcia denies the allegations. The Trump administration's handling of deportation cases has faced criticism from federal judges, with some ruling that the administration is in contempt of court for violating orders. Democrats and legal scholars accuse President Trump of provoking a constitutional crisis by ignoring court rulings, while the White House blames the judges.
