The 2025 Grammy Awards took a heartfelt turn when Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin delivered a deeply emotional tribute to Liam Payne, the former One Direction star. The intimate moment left fans and fellow artists moved, as Martin honoured his longtime friend and fellow musician. Payne tragically passed away in October at the age of 31. He was honoured during the Grammy ceremony’s In Memoriam segment.

During the emotional tribute, we saw a montage of clips showcasing Liam Payne’s journey with One Direction – from the start to the end. His voice echoed, “We never expected any of this to happen… If you actually sit and think about it, we’ve done some amazing things.”

While the visuals were playing, Coldplay’s Chris Martin took to the stage, softly singing "All My Love".

While his former bandmates weren’t at the ceremony, including Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, they had paid their respects in their own way at Liam’s funeral in the UK in November. Payne died on 16 October, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in the capital, Buenos Aires.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Grammys also honoured other legends like Quincy B. Jones in the In Memorium section, with moving performances by Cynthia Erivo and Janelle Monáe.

On the other hand, Grammy 2025 host Trevor Noah paid tribute to the victims of the plane crashes that claimed dozens of lives the previous week in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. “Tonight, as we reflect on the devastation that has hit L.A. this month, we also want to send our thoughts to all those impacted by the tragedies that occurred recently in Washington and Philadelphia just this past week,” Noah said before announcing the Memoriam segment.

Grammy 2025 also aimed to raise funds as well as awareness for the Los Angeles deadly wildfires that started on January 7, 2025.
