The PowerCore 10,000mAh power bank poses a potential fire risk
Anker, known for its high-quality portable charging accessories, is issuing a recall of over a million units of the AnkerPower Core 10000 with model number A1263. The affected units were manufactured between January 1, 2016, and October 30, 2019, and sold between June 2016 and December 31, 2022. If you own one of these power banks, sold through platforms like Amazon and eBay, stop using it immediately to avoid potential overheating and fire hazards.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that Anker has received 19 reports of fires and explosions, along with two minor burn injuries. This marks Anker's third product recall in recent times, with this being one of the largest accessory recalls in the U.S. due to a fire risk, involving 1,158,000 units.
Anker is offering replacement power banks or a $30 gift card for affected units. To determine if your power bank qualifies for a replacement, locate the serial number at the bottom and fill out Anker's recall form. Remember to provide proof of purchase and a photo of the power bank with the serial number visible.
Proper disposal of the affected power bank is crucial. Contact your municipal household hazardous waste collection center for guidance on disposal, as these lithium-ion batteries require special handling.
