The main accused in the attack on Saif Ali Khan, who was stabbed six times in the early hours of Thursday at his residence, has been apprehended by the Mumbai Police, as per TV reports.
This development comes after an extensive manhunt was launched, with multiple police teams deployed across Mumbai and adjoining areas. The suspect is currently being taken to Bandra police station for further interrogation.
The accused allegedly used the fire escape staircase to gain entry into Saif Ali Khan’s 11th-floor Bandra residence in the early hours of January 16. Investigations revealed that he was spotted near Bandra Railway station after the attack.
According to police, the attack was part of a robbery attempt, during which the intruder demanded Rs 1 crore from the actor's family.
Saif Ali Khan's Recovery Journey
The horrific incident took place around 2:30 AM on January 16 when the intruder confronted Saif's house help inside the apartment. The situation escalated into a violent altercation when Saif intervened to protect his family and staff. The actor sustained multiple stab wounds, including a major injury to his thoracic spinal cord.
Saif was immediately rushed to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove a 2.5-inch knife lodged in his spine and to repair a spinal fluid leak. While doctors have confirmed that the actor is out of danger, he remains under observation in the ICU.
The maid, who was also attacked with a hexa blade, suffered injuries to her wrists and hands while trying to fend off the intruder.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the attack, Mumbai Police registered an FIR at the Bandra Police Station and formed 20 teams to track down the suspect. Investigators suspected that the accused had boarded a local train heading towards Vasai Virar after fleeing the crime scene.
DCP Dixit Gedam of Zone 9 confirmed that the accused had used the fire escape staircase to enter the building, describing the incident as a robbery attempt.
Kareena Kapoor Khan's Statement
Meanwhile, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, wife of the 54-year-old actor, shared on Instagram that the constant media scrutiny has been overwhelming and poses a significant risk to the family's safety.
She requested the media and paparazzi to refrain from relentless speculation and coverage, emphasizing the need for privacy and space to heal and cope as a family during this challenging time.
