A new one-hour documentary will examine the circumstances behind the death of beloved Friends star Matthew Perry, who died in October 2023 at his Pacific Palisades home.
Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy premieres on Feb. 25 and features interviews with actress Morgan Fairchild (who played the actor’s mother in Friends), U.S. attorney Martin Estrada, former Los Angeles Police Department detective Greg Kading and other Hollywood insiders and law enforcement officials. Perry’s co-stars — Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer — do not appear in the documentary.

“Hollywood is full of enablers. They really preyed on somebody vulnerable,” a voiceover argues in the trailer, referencing Perry’s public fight against addictions throughout his life. Perry was found by an assistant after he drowned in his swimming pool’s hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home on Oct. 28, 2023, when a lethal dose of ketamine caused him to have cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
Five people have been charged with Perry’s death: his assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa; doctors Mark Chavez and Salvador Plasencia; former Red Door rehab program director Erik Fleming; and so-called “ketamine queen” Jasveen Sangha.
Perry released his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, about a year before he died. The actor was candid about his struggles with addiction in his book, which hit No. 1 on Amazon’s best-seller list after his death.
