Sealing Deals Across Europe and Asia

Prolific South Korean auteur Hong Sangsoo’s latest feature "What Does That Nature Say to You" has garnered significant international attention, with a flurry of sales confirmed before the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. The director, serving as a member of the festival’s main competition jury this year, has seen his film attract interest from various territories.

Seoul-based sales banner Finecut has successfully closed deals for the film in Europe and Asia. These include agreements with Austria and Switzerland (Filmgarten), China (Beijing Hugoeast Media), Ex-Yugoslavia (Discovery d.o.o.), Finland (BKS Cinema), Japan (Mimosa Films), and the United Kingdom (Institute of Contemporary Arts). These new deals complement the previously announced territories such as France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, and the U.S.

Starring Ha Seongguk, Kwon Hyehyo, and Cho Yunhee, the film debuted earlier this year at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. The story follows a poet in his thirties who spends an unexpected day with his girlfriend's family, leading to a series of poignant and honest moments. The film has been praised for its captivating storytelling and Hong's distinctive filmmaking style.

Aside from the success of "What Does That Nature Say to You," Finecut has also seen strong sales for its genre title "Noise," a horror film exploring urban social issues in South Korea. With upcoming releases in the Philippines and Mongolia, the film is set to make waves internationally. Finecut's Cannes lineup includes the market premiere of "Journey There," as well as sneak peeks of other highly anticipated projects.
