Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, known for her role in the hit 2001 series Meteor Garden, has tragically passed away at the age of 48. Her sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed her death, revealing that Barbie succumbed to pneumonia after falling ill during a family trip to Japan.
Barbie and Dee Hsu started their careers as a pop duo before transitioning into TV hosting and acting. Despite battling epilepsy and heart disease, Barbie continued to pursue her passion for acting and appeared in popular TV series like Summer’s Desire and Corner With Love, as well as movies such as Reign of Assassins and Motorway.
Meteor Garden, a Taiwanese adaptation of a Japanese comic, catapulted Barbie to fame as Shan Cai, a young woman navigating love and social status at an elite private school. The series also led to the formation of the boyband F4, featuring Barbie's male co-stars, which dominated the Mandopop scene in the 2000s.
