The iconic group Village People has announced their participation in the presidential inaugural activities for Donald Trump. The group revealed on Facebook that they have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to take part in various events, including one with the President himself. Despite potential controversy, Village People believe that music transcends politics and can bring people together.
According to The Hill, Village People will be performing at Trump’s “victory rally” at Capital One Arena in Washington, as well as at the Liberty Inaugural Ball. Their hits “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.” were frequently played at Trump’s campaign rallies during the 2020 and 2024 elections.
Victor Willis of Village People explained his decision to allow Trump to use “Y.M.C.A.” at rallies, stating that he didn't want to block the usage as the President seemed to genuinely enjoy the song. The positive reception of the tune at campaign events has also boosted its chart success and sales.
In addition to Village People, Carrie Underwood has been announced as a performer at the presidential inauguration ceremony on January 20th. The Grammy winner will sing “America the Beautiful” alongside The Armed Forces Chorus and The United States Naval Academy Glee Club. Underwood expressed her honor at being asked to participate in such a historic event, emphasizing the importance of unity and looking towards the future.
