Concerns Rise as Tatum Suffers Lower Leg Injury Against New York Knicks
Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum exited Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks with an apparent non-contact lower leg injury. Out of a timeout with just over three minutes to go in the game, Jaylen Brown lost the ball while driving to the hoop.
Tatum lunged to get the ball and went to the ground in immediate pain. He was rolling around in pain and stayed down for a couple of minutes before he was helped off the court. Tatum was unable to put any weight on his right leg and was put in a wheelchair as he went back to the locker room.
Tatum left after the Celtics blew a double-digit second-half lead and trailed by nine with just three minutes to go following a breakaway dunk off the turnover. The Celtics went on to lose Game 4, 121-113, and are now one loss away from being eliminated from the postseason.
All concern is now focused on the 27-year-old superstar who was in the midst of a dominant performance. Tatum had scored 42 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks. His 42 points were the most he's scored in a game during the 2025 playoffs.
After a dominant first-round performance, Tatum had struggled during the Knicks series. However, he picked it up in Game 4, doing everything he could to tie the series at two games apiece before heading back to Boston for Game 5. Now, Tatum's status for the potential series clincher for New York appears to be in serious jeopardy.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was among those in the sports world to react to Tatum's concerning injury. James sent out a post with four prayer emojis and the caption "Big Deuce," referring to Tatum's son's name.
The Celtics are expected to provide updates on Tatum's injury, so stay tuned for more information on Newsweek Sports.
