The Eagles weren’t just dominant in Sunday’s 55-23 win over the Commanders in the NFC Championship game. They put together a performance for the ages, blowing Washington and back to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years, and rewriting the NFL playoff and championship game record book (for both conferences) in the process.

Records Set by the Eagles:

  • Most points in a conference championship game: 55
  • Most rushing touchdowns in a game by a team in NFL playoff history: 7
  • Most rushing touchdowns in a career by a QB, NFL playoff history: Jalen Hurts, 9

Before Sunday the Bills were the only team ever to surpass 50 points in a conference title game, beating the Raiders 51-3 to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl in January of 1991. The Eagles now hold the record, blowing past the Panthers who beat the Cardinals 49-15 in January of 2016, giving them the previous NFC record.

The Eagles set a new (post-merger) mark for most rushing touchdowns in any playoff game with seven, including three from Saquon Barkley (who scored a 60-yard touchdown on his first run from scrimmage). Their seven rushing touchdowns Sunday surpassed the Patriots modern standard: New England had six rushing touchdowns against the Colts in January 2014, on the way to a 43-22 win.

Hurts came into the game seeming like a long shot to even catch 49ers legend Steve Young atop the all-time list at eight career playoff rushing touchdowns. But he scored three rushing touchdowns Sunday, passing Young to lead the all-time list.

The big question now is if the record will stand through Sunday and beyond, with Allen only two rushing touchdowns behind Hurts in the early stages of the AFC Championship game in Kansas City.
