India Test captain Rohit Sharma is set to play his first Ranji Trophy match since 2015 after being named in Mumbai’s 17-man squad for their upcoming clash with Jammu and Kashmir from January 23. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is also part of the squad.

Mumbai will continue to be captained by Ajinkya Rahane as they face Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA-BKC Ground.

Rohit has had a poor Test tour of Australia recently during which he managed just 31 runs in three Tests as India suffered a 1-3 series defeat.

Given his poor run, Rohit opted out from the fifth and final Test of the tour with Jasprit Bumrah captaining the side in his absence. The move led to speculations over the seasoned campaigner’s Test future which he allayed during an interview, saying he’s not going anywhere.

BCCI conducted a review of Indian team’s dipping form in Test cricket in the past few months that saw them not qualifying for the final of the ICC World Test Championship for the first time since its inception.
