Jamie Carragher said he'd prefer to take on Roy Keane in a scrap rather than be managed by Gary Neville.

The Liverpool icon was fielding quickfire 'this or that' questions on StillRyan's Still Talking Show on YouTube when he faced the tricky choice: "Would you rather fight Roy Keane or have Gary Neville as your manager?" Without missing a beat and with a knowing grin, Carragher replied: "I'd rather fight Roy Keane."

Although Carragher never actually traded blows with Keane, the two had plenty of clashes on the pitch during their time in the Premier League. As a solid defender for Liverpool, Carragher regularly faced off against Keane's Manchester United, where the latter was infamous for his hard-hitting style and formidable presence.

Their competitive nature hasn't waned since hanging up their boots either; both have transitioned into punditry roles at Sky Sports, often bringing their old rivalry to the screen. One memorable clash occurred live during a 2021 episode of Super Sunday after Chelsea and United drew 1-1.

Keane voiced strong opinions on Cristiano Ronaldo's role during his second term at Manchester United, particularly criticising interim manager Michael Carrick for relegating the forward to the bench during the November game. Keane insisted that Ronaldo should be part of the starting lineup, however, Carragher rejected Keane's stance while claiming it wasn't correct.

This led to an intense and persistent on-air dispute. The heated debate, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wedged between them, spanned around four minutes, and was only wrapped up after David Jones' intervention urging "Time to go," during a brief lull, reports the Mirror.

Nonetheless, Carragher seemingly would prefer a physical bout with Keane than having to follow fellow commentator Neville's directions. Neville once revealed that his own clashes with Carragher, meanwhile, stem from having similar characters.

In a 2024 episode of 'The Overlap' with Sky Sports, when posed with the question of his least preferred choice for a roommate among presenters, Neville said: "I think I would be stitched up because you can't separate Roy and Ian [Wright] - so they would definitely room together.

"Which would mean I'd be put with Jamie Carragher, who is definitely the last person I'd want. What is it about Carra that means I wouldn't want to room with him? I just don't want to listen to a minute more of him than I need to.

"He is constantly 'on' and I'm sure he'd say the same about me, but I think sometimes intensity meeting intensity doesn't work. Basically, I need a little bit more Yin and Yang, rather than what we are which is more Yin and Yin."
