The Utah Jazz have decided to waive David Jones in order to open up a two-way spot for Elijah Harkless, as reported by sources to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype on Twitter. Harkless, who has been playing in the G League, will now have the opportunity to join the Jazz.
David Jones, a 23-year-old small forward, signed a two-way deal with Philadelphia after going undrafted out of Memphis. Despite playing for the Sixers’ Summer League teams, he was waived in September. Jones then signed with the Jazz in November but has yet to make an NBA appearance.
During his time in the G League with the Salt Lake City Stars and Mexico City Capitanes, Jones has been putting up impressive numbers, averaging 15.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. However, it seems that he will continue to develop in the G League while waiting for another NBA opportunity.
Jones had a successful college career, being named a first-team All-AAC selection at Memphis. In his final season, he averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. Prior to his time at Memphis, Jones also played for DePaul and St. John’s.
