Nigar Sultana Joty became the first women cricketer in the country to hit a first-class century. She achieved this milestone in the Women's Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) playing for Central Zone against North Zone at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Nigar scored an unbeaten 153 off 253 balls, helping Central post 387-8d in response to North's first innings total of 240-9d, giving her team a 147-run lead. Follow The Daily Star's Google News channel for more updates.
Joty was unbeaten on 85 at stumps on Day 2 and completed her century in the morning session of the final day. Meanwhile, North was at 46-0 after 16 overs with openers Fargana Haque and Ishma Tanjim at the crease.
In another match in Rajshahi, East Zone were struggling at 130-5 in their second innings, trailing South Zone by 24 runs.
This year's Women's BCL marks the first-ever three-day competition for women cricketers in the country.
