FRANKFORT, MI -- If you’re looking to add an Olympic sport to your winter activity list then head up north and learn to curl.
Stormcloud Brewing in Frankfort is hosting curling once again at its downtown pub.
In its beer garden Stormcloud maintains an ice sheet for lessons and a league.
The curling lessons are open to the public 1-6:30 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 11 to Feb. 15.
Groups of eight or fewer can get in on the fun, regardless of skill level.
Each hour-and-a-half lesson is $25 per person. Timeslots are 1 p.m., 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. Registration ahead of time is required, and spots fill up fast.
You can find group lessons at www.stormcloudbrewing.com/learn-to-curl.
If you and your group want a personalized lesson, sign up for private lessons during the week. Registration for groups up to eight cost $200. Groups up to 12 people have an additional charge of $25 per person.
You can find timeslots for private lessons at https://www.stormcloudbrewing.com/private-curling.
The ice sheet is not refrigerated, so it’s dependent on Mother Nature to keep the ice at 32 degrees or below for optimal play.
If curling is more of a spectator sport for you, check out the brewery’s league on Tuesday nights.
If you’ve only seen the award-winning brewery in the summer its worth checking out in the winter months.
The outdoor beer garden, decorated with strings of hops, offers that laid back Up North feel with picnic table seating and weatherized with heaters and wind blockers.
