Crores of devotees gathered at Maha Kumbh Mela for Mauni Amavasya faced tragedy as a stampede near 'Sangam' resulted in around 10 deaths. Reports suggest different versions of how the chaos unfolded.
One pilgrim claimed that police rushed people preparing for the royal bath, sparking rumors of a stampede, while others mentioned pilgrims fainting due to overcrowding. Some alleged they were stopped from accessing Sangam bank.
Post-stampede, visuals showed clothes, bags, and shoes scattered. Eyewitnesses recounted terrifying experiences of being trapped in the crowd with no escape, leading to injuries and chaos.
Despite the incident, ordinary devotees proceeded with the holy bath, while the Akharas canceled their Amrit Snan. Authorities had issued guidelines for crowd management and urged pilgrims to follow safety protocols.
