The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that Matt Eberflus, former head coach of the Chicago Bears, has had his first interview for their vacant defensive coordinator position. This marks Eberflus' first interview since being let go by the Bears in November.
Eberflus previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018 to 2021, where he was known for building a strong defense, particularly against the run. However, his time as head coach of the Bears was marred by poor performance and notable clock-management errors that ultimately led to his dismissal.
With the defensive coordinator role, Eberflus would have the opportunity to focus on his expertise in coaching defense without the added responsibilities of managing the entire team. The Falcons are seeking a new defensive coordinator following the departure of Jimmy Lake at the end of the season, and Eberflus is the seventh candidate to interview for the position.
