Harkless, who went undrafted out of UNLV in 2023, has spent the majority of his early professional career playing for the Los Angeles Clippers’ G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers.
He also had a brief stint in the Canadian Elite Basketball League with the Saskatchewan Rattlers this past spring.
In 18 games for the San Diego Clippers during the 2024-25 Tip-Off Tournament and regular season, Harkless has posted impressive numbers, averaging 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 steals in 27.1 minutes per contest.
The 6-foot-3 guard has also been efficient, shooting .438 from the field, .362 from beyond the arc, and .810 from the free-throw line, showcasing a well-rounded game.
However, the Jazz don’t currently have an open two-way slot, meaning they’ll need to make a move to accommodate Harkless. The team will have to waive one of their existing two-way players — either Micah Potter, Oscar Tshiebwe, or David Jones — to make room for him.
A two-way player is typically limited to no more than 50 NBA appearances in a season, but because Harkless is signing well into the season, his NBA appearances will be prorated. Assuming his deal is finalized by Tuesday or Wednesday, Harkless will be limited to 30 NBA games for the remainder of the season.
This move provides the Jazz with additional depth in the backcourt, adding a versatile player who can contribute on both ends of the floor, while also keeping the team’s long-term roster flexibility in mind.
