The Communique reiterated CARICOM's support for the peaceful resolution of the Guyana/Venezuela controversy through the Good Offices Process of the United Nations Secretary-General. The Heads of Government also expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Representative in advancing the resolution of the controversy. They called on Venezuela to adhere to the principles of international law and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Guyana. The Heads of Government reaffirmed their support for Guyana in its efforts to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reiterated their commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes in the region. They also expressed their solidarity with the people of Guyana and called for the international community to support Guyana in this matter. In conclusion, the CARICOM Heads of Government stated that they would continue to closely monitor the situation and stand ready to take further actions as necessary to support Guyana in defending its territory.
