Deputy Mayor Denise Bobb-Cummings echoed Mentore’s sentiments, stating that the City Council has been making every effort to work with taxpayers to address their outstanding debts, including setting up payment plans and offering assistance to those in financial hardship. She emphasized that the Council’s priority is to ensure that all residents have access to quality public services, and that the funds collected from taxes are crucial for the city’s development. Councillor Clayton Hinds also spoke out against Jagdeo’s comments, stating that the PPP should focus on constructive dialogue and cooperation with the City Council, rather than making unfounded accusations. He urged the opposition party to work together with the Council to find solutions to the city’s financial challenges. City Finance Chairman Lelon Saul provided detailed information on the city’s financial situation, explaining that the Council has been facing a deficit due to the high number of delinquent taxpayers. He stressed the importance of all residents fulfilling their financial obligations to ensure the sustainability of public services and infrastructure in Georgetown. In conclusion, Mayor Mentore reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its financial management, and urged residents to cooperate in fulfilling their tax obligations for the betterment of the city. He also called on political leaders to refrain from making divisive and misleading statements that could hinder the city’s progress.
