In an alarming incident, at least 10 children from Munda Sahi locality in Odisha's Jajpur district fell ill after consuming some unknown poisonous fruit from a nearby tree. The children, mostly minors, have been hospitalized after ingesting the fruit.

According to sources, the minor children playing together happened to come across the fruit. Out of curiosity, they consumed it. Soon after, every one of them began exhibiting symptoms of severe vomiting and stomachache.

They were immediately rushed to Dharmasala Medical Centre. After preliminary treatment, the children were referred to Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College (SCB) in Cuttack for better treatment after their condition worsened.

The exact type of fruit responsible for the illness is yet to be identified. As of now, the children have not been able to adequately describe the fruit to medical professionals, hindering precise diagnosis and identification.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the source and type of the fruit involved in this incident, aiming to prevent any future occurrences. Parents and guardians in the region have been urged to exercise caution regarding unknown or wild fruits.

In response to the incident, a public health advisory has been issued urging residents to avoid consuming unfamiliar fruits and to seek immediate medical attention if any symptoms of poisoning occur.
