NCP leader Praful Patel raises concerns over Singapore Airlines' response to Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner tragedy
Mumbai, Jun 18 (PTI) - Former Civil Aviation Minister and senior NCP leader Praful Patel raised questions on Wednesday regarding the "silence" of Singapore Airlines following the horrific crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad last week. Singapore Airlines holds a 25.1% stake in Tata Group-run Air India and has a board position in the airline.
Expressing dismay over the lack of response from Singapore Airlines, Patel highlighted the importance of their role as a substantial shareholder in Air India's wide-body aircraft maintenance. He pointed out the connection between Singapore Airlines and Air India's leadership, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Following the crash of the London-bound Boeing 787-8 aircraft on June 12, which resulted in the loss of 241 lives on board and 29 on the ground, Patel called out Singapore Airlines for their apparent silence. The NCP leader urged the airline to break their silence and take responsibility for their involvement with Air India.
While investigations are ongoing by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air India's internal safety board, the government has also established a high-level committee to probe the accident. Singapore Airlines released a statement offering condolences and support to Tata Sons and Air India.
