Co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Expresses Outrage Over Gaza Situation

Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and a longtime progressive activist, was removed from a US Senate hearing after protesting the "slaughter" in Gaza. Speaking on behalf of millions of Americans, Cohen expressed his outrage over the situation.

During the hearing, Cohen and a group of protesters interrupted Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr.'s testimony, highlighting the issue of Congress funding bombs for Gaza while cutting Medicaid, a health insurance program for low-income families. Capitol Police placed Cohen in handcuffs following the disruption.

After his release, Cohen urged senators to press Israel to allow food aid to reach starving children in Gaza. He criticized the US for approving billions of dollars in military funding for Israel while domestic social programs face cuts.

"The majority of Americans hate what's going on, what our country is doing with our money and in our name," Cohen stated. Public opinion toward Israel has shifted unfavorably, particularly among Democrats, according to recent polls.

Cohen emphasized the moral and spiritual implications of supporting war-related spending, calling for a redirection of resources to improve lives globally. He condemned the violence in Gaza, urging for peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

As a vocal critic of Israeli policy, Cohen has joined other prominent figures in opposing pro-Israel lobbying efforts. He highlighted that his advocacy represents the sentiments of millions who share his views.

Israel's conflict in Gaza, which began in 2023, has resulted in significant casualties on both sides. The region faces a humanitarian crisis, with Gaza at risk of famine due to an aid blockade imposed by Israel.
