The Calcutta High Court announced on Wednesday that it would hear the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the victim's family, and the convict before making a decision on the admission of an appeal filed by the West Bengal government regarding the inadequacy of the sentence given by a trial court in the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case. The high court has scheduled the hearing for Monday.

The CBI has opposed the state government's right to file an appeal, asserting that it is the prosecuting agency and therefore has the authority to prefer the appeal based on the grounds of the sentence's inadequacy. Earlier this week, the Sealdah court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment until death for the rape and murder of an on-duty doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 of the previous year.

A division bench, chaired by Justice Debangshu Basak, stated that it would listen to arguments from the CBI, the victim's family, and the convict's legal representatives before making a decision on whether to admit the state government's appeal.
