Chandra Arya, an India-origin Member of Parliament for Nepean, has officially entered the race for Prime Minister of Canada after filing his nomination and addressing the House in Kannada. Arya, who hails from Tumkur district in Karnataka, completed his MBA in Dharwad before moving to Canada.
Earlier this week, Arya announced his candidacy for the position of Prime Minister of Canada. This comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared his intention to step down, ensuring he will remain in office until a new leader is chosen.
"Our nation faces structural challenges that require tough solutions. We must make bold political decisions to secure prosperity for our children and grandchildren," Arya wrote on the social media platform X on January 13.
Arya has been vocal in his criticism of Khalistan supporters for celebrating the assassination of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, as well as condemning the defacing of Hindu temples in Canada. He has announced his candidacy for the Liberal leadership, promising to make Canada a "sovereign republic" with necessary bold political decisions.
"I am running to be the next Prime Minister of Canada to lead a small, more efficient government to rebuild our nation and secure prosperity for future generations," Arya stated, as described by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Highlighting the significant challenges facing the nation, Arya emphasized the need for tough choices to address affordability issues, the struggles of the working middle class, and the retirement challenges faced by many working families.
Arya sees India as a vital market for Canada's exports and investments, as well as a key source for fulfilling critical talent needs. He believes that bold decisions are necessary to rebuild the economy, create equal opportunities, and secure prosperity for future generations.
"Canada deserves leadership that isn't afraid to make the big decisions. Decisions that rebuild our economy, restore hope, create equal opportunities for all Canadians, and secure prosperity for our children and grandchildren," Arya emphasized.
