The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday provided a Z-category security to Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, based on intelligence threat assessments, sources told India Today TV. Dalai Lama's security has been upgraded based on the threat assessment report given by the Intelligence Bureau. Under this enhanced security arrangement, the 89-year-old spiritual leader will get a total of 33 security personnel, including armed static guards stationed at his residence, personal security officers providing round-the-clock protection, and commandos forming an armed escort in shifts. Additionally, trained drivers and surveillance personnel will be on duty at all times to ensure his safety.
According to sources, the decision to elevate the Dalai Lama's security level was taken after a thorough evaluation of the potential risks to his safety. The Z-category security cover is reserved for high-risk individuals who face specific threats to their lives. The Intelligence Bureau's assessment indicated a heightened risk to the Dalai Lama's security, prompting the MHA to take immediate action to bolster his protection.
The Dalai Lama, who has been living in India since fleeing Tibet in 1959, is revered by millions around the world for his teachings on compassion, peace, and non-violence. He has been a vocal advocate for Tibetan autonomy and human rights, drawing the ire of the Chinese government, which considers him a separatist threat.
The upgraded security measures are expected to provide the Dalai Lama with an added layer of protection as he continues his work promoting peace and harmony across the globe. The spiritual leader's followers have welcomed the move, expressing relief that his safety is being prioritized in the face of mounting threats.
