Dubai: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Appoints New Military Commanders
Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has appointed replacements for two top military commanders who were killed in a series of Israeli strikes on Friday.
State TV announced that Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi has been selected as the new head of the armed forces, taking over from Gen. Mohammad Bagheri. Mousavi previously served as the top army commander.
In addition, Khamenei has named Mohammad Pakpour to lead the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, succeeding Gen. Hossein Salami.
The Revolutionary Guard, established following Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, holds significant influence within the country's theocracy.
