Iran suspends talks indefinitely following attacks on its targets
June 13 (UPI) -- Iran announced on Friday that it is withdrawing from nuclear talks with the United States after Israel's strikes on multiple Iranian targets. Iranian state media and Oman's News Agency reported that the talks have been suspended indefinitely.
Another round of nuclear talks was scheduled for Sunday as the Trump administration aimed to reach a deal with Iran on its nuclear program. However, Iran stated that it will not participate in the negotiations scheduled for Sunday, suspending its involvement "until further notice" after Israel's attacks on Iranian officials and infrastructure.
President Donald Trump urged Iran to continue trying to reach a deal despite the Israeli attacks. In May, the Trump administration had expressed optimism about the progress made in the talks mediated by Oman.
Oman's News Agency confirmed Iran's withdrawal from the nuclear talks in response to the Israeli airstrikes. Iran had previously declared its intent to increase enriched uranium production significantly. The International Atomic Energy Agency also found Iran in violation of its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations.
