The President of All India Akhara Parishad announced that all 13 Akharas will not participate in the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya following a tragic stampede that occurred around 1 am on Thursday. "The way the incident unfolded today is truly unfortunate, prompting us to abstain from bathing on Mauni Amavasya. Approximately 5 crore people had arrived at the Maha Kumbh Mela by Tuesday, a day before Mauni Amavasya, according to the Uttar Pradesh government's estimates. The crowd is anticipated to swell to around 10 crore on Wednesday.

Akharas representing the three sects 'Sanyasi, Bairagi, and Udaseen' partake in the holy dip in a specific order. Seers and saints, including the ash-smeared Nagas, then submerge themselves in the sacred meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers on significant bathing dates like Mauni Amavasya.

The subsequent Amrit Snan is scheduled for Basant Panchmi.
