The suspect in the multiple murders and injuries, Ako Martinovic, attempted suicide a few hours after the shooting in the city of Cetinje. He died while being transported to the hospital, announced the Minister of Internal Affairs of Montenegro, Danilo Saranovic, reported Balkan Service of Radio Liberty.
According to Saranovic, at least ten people, including two children, were killed on Wednesday afternoon, January 1st, in Cetinje, with four others injured. At the same time, the acting director of the police department, Lazar Stepanovic, stated that most likely, 12 people died.
"Do not take this information as 100% confirmed until an autopsy is performed," Stepanovic said.
It was also mentioned that the motive for the murders is unknown, as the victims were close friends and godparents of Martinovic.
As reported, Martinovic killed four people in one bar in the city center and the rest in at least three other locations. The police deployed a special unit to search for the attacker in Cetinje. All roads to and from the city were blocked, and the police flooded the streets.
The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Miloyko Spaic, visited the hospital where the injured were being treated and declared a three-day mourning period.
