WhatsApp Account Hacking Case

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspects for hacking into the WhatsApp account of the state’s Criminal Investigation Department head, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, and defrauding his family and friends of over N1.1 million.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, revealed this information while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Suspects and Modus Operandi

The arrested suspects, Tolani Jeremiah (31), Akande Suru (20), and Edwin Jatto (24), were caught at their hideout in Edo State. They allegedly hacked into DCP Ojajuni’s WhatsApp account, sending messages to his contacts requesting financial help.

The suspects managed to deceive the victim’s friends and family into transferring funds to a specific Moniepoint account, defrauding them of N1,115,000.

According to Ogunlowo, the suspects used various mobile phones, including a Redmi Android phone, and other devices for their hacking activities. Investigations revealed that they bypassed WhatsApp’s one-time password security system using a Gmail account.

Child Trafficking Syndicate Case

Additionally, the police paraded members of a child trafficking syndicate led by a suspect known as Mama Faith, who is currently in custody at the Ibara Correctional Centre.

Details of The Syndicate

The members of the syndicate, ThankGod Taiwo (35), Patience Chikieze (54), and Oluyinka Folake (43), were implicated in the abduction and sale of children for illegal adoption.

Taiwo was arrested after selling a seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, to Chikieze for N650,000. Chikieze, in turn, sold a three-year-old boy, Mohees Daniel, for N3 million.

Chikieze also attempted to sell another child, David Jesulayomi, for a profit. The police rescued both children and recovered fake adoption agreements.

Police Warning and Call to Action

CP Ogunlowo, who recently took office, cautioned criminals in the state to cease illegal activities or face legal consequences. He urged residents to provide the police with timely intelligence to combat crime effectively.
