Trump aims to lower drug prices by 30-80% with new executive order
President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will be signing an executive order on Monday aimed at reducing the cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs in the United States by 30 to 80 percent. Trump highlighted the disparity in drug prices between the U.S. and other nations, stating that drugs are often five to ten times more expensive in the U.S. despite being manufactured in the same facilities.
Trump took a swipe at pharmaceutical companies and the Democratic Party, accusing them of passing on exorbitant costs to American consumers. He emphasized that campaign contributions would not influence his decision-making process and that the executive order is a step towards achieving fairness in drug pricing.
Trump expressed his excitement about the upcoming executive order, stating that it would be one of the most significant in the country's history. He assured that the order would lead to an immediate reduction in prescription drug prices and introduce a "Most Favored Nation" policy to ensure that the U.S. pays prices comparable to the lowest globally.
The White House had previously released a fact sheet indicating that Trump's executive order would focus on lowering drug prices for American patients, particularly those with low incomes. The order would also support states in implementing drug importation programs to reduce prescription costs significantly.
