A stone was thrown at Arvind Kejriwal's car while campaigning in New Delhi, sparking a heated exchange between the AAP and BJP ahead of the February 5 Delhi polls. The incident, captured on video, has intensified tensions between the two political parties.
According to the AAP, BJP's Parvesh Verma orchestrated the attack to sabotage Mr. Kejriwal's campaign, alleging that the former Delhi Chief Minister's car hit two BJP workers. The AAP accused Verma of resorting to violence out of fear of defeat in the upcoming elections.
In response, the AAP condemned the attack, with party members accusing the BJP of engaging in cheap politics to stifle opposition. Manish Sisodia, a colleague of Mr. Kejriwal, criticized the BJP's tactics, urging them to face their opponents with courage instead of resorting to violence.
Parvesh Verma, on the other hand, denied the allegations and accused Mr. Kejriwal of high-handedness, claiming that the AAP leader's car had hit BJP workers. Verma described the incident as an attempt to murder and stated that the BJP would be pressing charges against Mr. Kejriwal.
Amid the escalating tensions, reports emerged of a potential threat from a pro-Khalistan group targeting Arvind Kejriwal. Despite the perceived risk, the three-time chief minister expressed confidence in his safety, stating that he believes in destiny and is prepared for any eventuality.
Arvind Kejriwal, a Z-plus protectee, has a robust security detail comprising 63 personnel to ensure his safety. In the past, he has faced security threats, including an incident where a man threw liquid on him during a padyatra in the city, which the AAP attributed to BJP associates.
