The United States on January 7 announced sanctions on a senior Hungarian official who has a critical role in Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government for his alleged involvement in corruption.

ine envoy, Keith Kellogg, will attend the meeting in Germany. Ukraine has been fighting Russian forces in the eastern part of the country since 2014, when Moscow annexed Crimea and pro-Russian separatists declared independence in the Donbas region. The conflict has resulted in more than 10,000 deaths and displaced 1.5 million people. The United States has provided Ukraine with more than $1.5 billion in security assistance since 2014, including lethal aid such as Javelin anti-tank missiles.
