Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González reported on Tuesday that his son-in-law, Rafael Tudares, was kidnapped in Venezuela's capital, Caracas. The incident occurred as Tudares was dropping off his two young grandchildren at school.
Kidnapping Details
González described the kidnappers as "hooded men, dressed in black," who intercepted the vehicle and forcibly took Tudares away in a gold-colored van. The safety and well-being of his grandchildren, aged 6 and 7, remain unknown.
Government Response
The government's press office has not issued a statement regarding the incident, despite requests for comment from The Associated Press. This kidnapping adds to the escalating tensions in Venezuela as the country prepares for the start of the next presidential term on Friday.
Opposition Leader's Efforts
González, a retired diplomat and leader of Venezuela's main opposition coalition, has been actively seeking international support to challenge President Nicolás Maduro's legitimacy. He recently met with U.S. President Joe Biden to discuss his efforts to unseat Maduro.
